Simplified SGML for Serial Headers
(SSSH)

A Serial Header contains bibliographic information about an article appearing in a Serial publication, i.e. a journal or other periodical. Serial Headers created by journal publishers for various purposes including electronic delivery to current awareness and electronic document delivery services.

SSSH was developed for the serial publishing industry by me while I was a member of the Publishing Technology and New Media Group at Pira International. SSSH is an application of the Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML). For further information on SSSH, see the Introduction to SSSH version 2. For further information on SGML see the XML Cover Pages website.

For information on how in future one will be able to exchange information about serials in ONIX format visit the EDItEUR website.
